                                                               Nailsworth legacy revived in the face of a global crisis:

The all but lost cloth-making industry of Nailsworth can be traced back to the 14th Century but in the past 6 weeks, a cottage industry has sprung into life with sewing machines whirring back into action.

Nailsworth Chamber of Trade & Commerce has been extremely busy during the virus crisis, running Nailsworth Scrub Hub: PPE for Heroes and Nailsworth Food Hub, Click & Collect Market and there no plans to down tools yet!

PPE:

In its first six weeks, Nailsworth Scrub Hub: PPE for Heroes – which includes the specialist visor-section – delivered:

  1. 130 full sets of scrubs;
  2. 1200 plastic, 3D printed visors;
  3. 267 re-useable cloth masks, with orders for 340 more, going up all the time;
  4. 38 plastic surgical gowns, fashioned out of shower curtains!
  5. 3 surgical hats;
  6. Marked each piece of PPE with an official ‘Nailsworth Scrub Hub’ logo for quality and traceability;
  7. Provided clear H&S guidance for usage and cleaning of all products.

Food hub:

The chamber has been supplying:

  1. Up to 500 FREE meals every week;
  2. Cooked by top chefs including Ben Sibbald from Ben’s Kitchen in Tetbury, and Richard Davies and team from Calcot Manor;
  3. Delivered to people in self-isolation, NHS workers, as well as grateful police and firefighters, so that they can eat well during long and difficult shifts;
  4. Setting up food hubs, delivering nutritious frozen meals to NHS and key workers, as well as to the vulnerable in our area;
  5. Organising a team of community volunteers, working from their own homes, as sewers, pattern cutters, 3D printers and assemblers to manufacture PPE (scrubs, masks, gowns and visors) for front-line workers, including local doctors’ surgeries and care homes to plug a big gap in the supply chain;
  6. Supplying throughout Nailsworth and the Stroud region and as far afield as Cheltenham, Berkley and Cirencester;
  7. Running Nailsworth Farmers’ Market throughout the crisis through a socially-distanced, click-and-collect system;
  8. Helping traders to obtain grants.

Nailsworth Market

  1. On Saturday, June 27, 9.30am-2.30pm, we will be re-opening Nailsworth Farmers’ Market in Nailsworth town centre, with 20 stalls, following strict government safety guidelines.

We have been fundraising through a ‘Gofundme’ page with kind donations from our public supporters.

Unfortunately, the crisis might not be over yet. We are still working for and with our community.

Thank you to everyone that has supported the Chamber and with your help made it possible to bring the community together and help those that needed the help the most.

  1. We are here to support the community.
  2. We are here to support our Traders
  3. And the Chamber is here to thank all those volunteers and donors who have rallied behind us so far. Without this overwhelming community support, we could not have done any of this.
